Residential Night Warden

Job Title: Residential Night Warden

Hours: Two 8 hours shifts -Saturday and Sunday- for 36 weeks (College Term Time)
11pm - 7am

Accommodation Studio apartment accommodation is provided in the residence for
nights on shift. Studio apartment is fitted with en-suite shower room, small kitchenette, desk and bed. All heating, lighting, electricity and water is included.


Remuneration:£10.78 per hour


Residential Wardens are part of the College team to ensure all students have access to a safe and secure environment at all times.
All Residential Wardens are responsible for the wellbeing and care of residential students in line with the College's policies and procedures.

Main Responsibilities

oTo promote the welfare of young people in all aspects of College life and to ensure safeguarding arrangements are adhered to at all times.
oTo maintain acceptable standards of student behaviour at all times while on duty in residence.
oMaintain security of the designated floor of the hall of residence, including the sign in/sign out register.
oTo help mediate in student disputes about noise, unacceptable behaviour etc thereby ensuring good order and behaviour is maintained within the Residence.
oTo ensure that the dignity and rights of individuals are protected and represented at all times, engender a culture of respect and to protect students from bullying and other forms of intimidation and abuse.
oEnforce rules of the College with respect to curfews, alcohol and drugs, smoking, visitors and gender mixing.
oTo give evidence about disciplinary issues which have been witnessed.
oTo ensure that Fire, Health and Safety procedures are complied with at all times.
oFollow procedure and protocol in the event of an emergency.
oTo inspect communal areas, report damage and dilapidation.
oTo report all incidents, accidents, near misses and maintenance faults in line with College procedures
oAccompany students (if required) to hospital /doctor
oTo undergo and maintain training as a designated first aider and fire marshal.
oTo effectively liaise with the wider College Residential Team.
oTo contribute and demonstrate the positive promotion and role modelling of the College ethos and professional behaviours expected of all staff

Person Specification
The successful applicant for this role will ideally:
oHave experience of working successfully with young people
oHave GCSE or 'O' Level equivalent qualifications in Maths and English
oBe trained in First Aid (training can be provided if necessary)
oUnderstand the importance of and have experience of enforcing health and safety rules and fire regulations
oBe computer literate
oAppreciate and understand the different social, cultural and physical needs of students
oRespect and maintain confidentiality of students while having regard to safeguarding procedures and requirements
oCommunicate clearly, listen effectively and respond well to feedback
Be able to demonstrate ability to deal with difficult situations calm

Must be able to pass an Enhanced DBS Check
