JOB TITLE: Quality Engineer


REPORTING TO:Quality Manager


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

To conduct define and action activities for developing products ensuring that the product quality fully meets customer and company requirements. To maintain effective communication with manufacturing personnel to ensure a smooth transition to production volume.

To ensure customer and company quality requirements are maintained throughout production life of project

KEY TASKS

1.To conduct drawing and specification review as part of feasibility studies. Identify concerns and liaise with relevant internal and customer contacts until these are resolved
2.To ensure that customer requirements are clearly understood and translated into necessary controls and standards
3.To manage effective PFMEA meetings and subsequent reviews
4.To evaluate dimensional and visual assessment of components. Identifying errors and implementing necessary corrective action
5.To prepare control and gauge plans and co-ordinate necessary actions
6.To prepare Inspection Instructions based on the Control Plan/Gauge Plan/FMEA and gain concurrence from specified areas.
7.To ensure customer sample paperwork is prepared and submitted. Ensure that approval is obtained.
10To conduct pre-production audits on samples prior to despatch to the customer and ensure that they meet specified requirements
11.Assist with preliminary process studies, confirm control limits with Production Engineers, and agree actions to correct non-stable / non capable processes.
12.To monitor process capability during production and agree actions to correct non stable / non capable processes
13.To ensure quality documentation is updated in line with company procedures
14.To arrange for the inspection of customer returns and provide reports on causes of rejection and corrective action.
15.To lead root cause analysis and assist with the resolution of quality concerns as required by company procedures
16.To set quality standards
17.To assist in team member/team leader training in quality issues
18.To lead improvement activities within the company
19.To visit/liaise with customers and suppliers as required (JLR, General Motors and Renault being key accounts).
20.Flexibility to undertake training and provide support within Quality Department as required
21.To ensure housekeeping in the Quality area is maintained in a satisfactory condition
22.Active involvement in improvement activities to support departmental and company objectives
23.To communicate by written and verbal means using the Company communication channels to ensure clear understanding to colleagues and management
24.To assist in process audits
25.Effective use of trend charts to present action plans and tracking
26.To provide support to manufacturing teams to resolve quality concerns and promote quality. On receipt of quality concerns, evaluate and implement containment activity, both internally and externally. Providing clear instructions to third part agencies if necessary to maintain customer and company quality levels.
27.Planning of workload to ensure completion of activities within agreed timing program
28.Proficient in the use of standard software packages and report generation

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Must have a thorough understanding of the automotive industries requirements for Advanced Product Quality Planning. Needs to have practical engineering experience and be educated preferably to HNC level minimum. Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the Company and with customers. Attention to detail and the determination to insist on quality standards which meet customer requirements are essential personal attributes.
