DATA ANALYST
England, West Midlands, Coventry - £10.00 per hour

Posted: 17/07/15

Description:
Temp rate £10.00 per hour, 2-4 weeks work, core hours 8.30 - 17.00 Monday to Friday
Must have full UK Driving licence

Our clients ideally seeks a student / graduate for a short term project of 2-4 weeks commencing Monday 27th July 2015 preferably.

The task that to determine is the average age of our wooden pallet pool based on a random sample of pallets to be taken at various of depots around the UK. Our pallets have a code branded onto one of the corner blocks.

This code tells who the manufacturer is and the year and week that the pallet was manufactured. We want to gather this information from around 10,000 pallets and then analyse it to determine the average age, probably by manufacturer.

We require this person to stand next to a conveyor carrying stacks of 10 pallets and to read the code off each pallet in the stack and record it on a sheet. Generally this would be done inside under cover but there may be some depots where the conveyors are outside. The first week or so will probably be spent collecting this data. There are times when the code may be indistinct which will require some initiative to determine what it is according to a list that will be provided. Once the data is collected the student will need to enter it onto an excel spreadsheet and then do some analysis to present the results. They will need to set up the excel spreadsheet themselves, possibly with some features to facilitate accurate and speedy input.

They will be required to go to at least 4 and maybe more depots - probably in Leicester, Newport (south Wales), Widnes (near Liverpool) and possibly Aylesford (in Kent), spending at least a day (8 hours) at each site. To facilitate this there may be a need to stay over for the night. Any reasonable costs incurred will be reimbursed. We will provide a pool car for any travel required. These depots are operated by 3rd parties on our behalf. We would arrange for a good introduction of the student at each site, probably by an Quality Manager. We would provide the student with all the safety equipment they need (Hi-Viz, safety shoes etc) and will ensure that they receive a proper health & safety induction when they arrive at each site. These depots, by the nature of work undertaken there, can be quite dirty environments. Our offices in Meriden would be their base and their support as well as the place they would work from once doing the analysis.

We are looking for an intelligent, responsible and conscientious person who will be able to use their own initiative and get on with the job with little supervision, albeit that they will be well supported when necessary. Accuracy is important. We feel that a graduate or student who is or has studied maths or stats may be suited to this although this is not an absolute requirement.
