Advice and Immigration Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a permanent, full time Advice and Immigration Assistant to join the International Student Support Team.


This is an exciting opportunity and the role will be to carry out credibility interviews and financial document assessments prior to sponsorship under Coventry University's Student sponsor licence.

Assisting the International Student Advisor with the annual renewal of the sponsor licence with the UKVI in coordination with the CU Group Compliance team. To compile data for the annual Basic Compliance Assessment by maintaining refusal data and non-enroller data across all intakes and all campuses.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
*Carrying out interviewing of students prior to visa sponsorship with a professional, approachable and clearly comprehensible verbal communication.
*Producing contemporaneous and auditable transcripts of interviews accurately reflecting applicants' responses
*Making assessments of responses provided during interview and potential risk of visa sponsorship.
*Accurate assessment of student study intentions and escalation of issues raising concern to senior staff members
*Prepare and maintain accuracy logs in relation to the interviews undertaken, providing reports weekly and on an ad hoc basis upon request
*Assessment of financial documents that applicants intend to use in support of a visa application in line with immigration law regulations.
*Assessment of proof of relationship where student is relying on family member's funds
*Providing clear, accurate and timely advice to support students in rectifying errors in financial documents being prepared for a visa application.
*Accurate record keeping of advice provided and evidence received from applicants
*Maintaining excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
*For applicants to achieve a low rate of visa refusal from the Home Office following interview and financial document assessment by the role holder, as measured through KPIs.
*Be able to work under pressure to meet targets and deadlines
*Be empathetic, patient, professional and culturally aware when assisting students from a wide range of backgrounds
*Ad Hoc administrative duties for International Student Support team
*Responding professionally to queries about admissions process of international students with service level agreements.


Skill set required for this role:

*Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Access.
*A - Level or equivalent work experience
*Experience of working in a customer service environment
*Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Access.
*Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
*Ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines.
*Team player
*Excellent telephone manner
*Customer focussed approach
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team
*Ability to use own initiative and take ownership
*Good awareness of cultural differences and impact on interpersonal communication

Working hours :37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Evening work required during peak periods
